Mark Belton, Founding Director

Mark has over 40 years’ experience in forestry as a forester and ecologist.

In the 1990’s, Mark headed the Ministry of Forestry’s Forestry Development Group. Mark has undertaken forest carbon advisory work in Europe, North and South America, and South East Asia. He has recently led an international peer review of emission reductions from Indonesia’s largest forest land-use conservation program.

In New Zealand, Mark champions the vision of integrated forestry development within farms, not wholesale replacement of high value farmland with planted forests. He founded Permanent Forests NZ in anticipation of an emerging carbon market in 2006.
